IVANIA’17 -1st Youth Convention, Surat

Theme: Youth the Follower and Evangelizer,
The first youth retreat, ever after, the formation of St .John Chrysostom Diocese of Gurgaon was held in St Mary’s Malankara Catholic Church, Surat from 19th to 21st October, 2017. The pioneering attempt to gather together as the promising future of our Mission Diocese was attended by over 200 youths from Bhopal, Delhi and Odisha regions. The blessed event was marked by the presence of our patron, His Excellency Dr Jacob Mar Barnabas, Vicar General Most Reverend Monsignor ShajiManikulam and over 15 priests of Gurgaon diocese , sisters, animators and MCYM regional and unit executives as well. The three day event started with the inaugural session which was solemnized by His Grace Dr Stanley Fernandez, Apostolic Administrator of the Baroda Diocese. The resource team for the convention comprised of the vibrant Salesians of Don Bosco from Mumbai comprising of Rev. Fr Mcenrone Lopes, Rev. Fr Leon Rodriguez and Mr. Richardson and Mr. Carson Medonza. Sessions were also taken by the Mr.Saji Daniel, animator of MCYM, Gurgaon Diocese and Mr .V. A George on the uniqueness of our Mission Diocese and how to answer the call to our vocation by youths who comprise the now that is the present of the diocese. With sessions on exploring the practical dimension of youth as follower and evangelizer and putting it to optimal use through social media, the importance of mission followed by adoration and the critical importance of confession to prepare ourselves for our vocation, Ivania 2017 was a blessed and a truly holistic experience for all due to the eclectic mix of cultural events and sports as well to facilitate our brotherhood in Christ in a healthy competitive manner. The event concluded with open senate meeting where the regional and diocesan level half yearly reports of MCYM were presented followed by open discussion where executives from MCYM Central Secretariat shared their experiential wisdom on the role of executives and the importance of senate meeting in MCYM. Ivania Youth Convention 2017 ended on 21st Oct around 1 p.m. but the fire and passion it has ignited in the minds of the young will continue to burn to give light to the Mission Diocese of Gurgaon.

The 64th Feast of Commemoration of the Servant of God Archbishop Mar Ivanios

Delhi Malankara Catholic Association and Delhi Regional Pastoral Council unitedly celebrated the 64th Feast of Commemoration of the Servant of God Archbishop Mar Ivanios on 22ndand 23rd July 2017 at St Mary’s Cathedral,Nebsarai, New Delhi.


The padayatra in relation with the commemoration of the 64thfeast of Servant of God Archbishop Mar Ivanios started from Mother Mary Malankara Catholic Church Ghaziabad on 22ndJuly 2017. The padayatra started after The Holy Qurbono, Gurugram Diocese Vicar General Msgr. ShajiManikullam was the main celebrant for the Holy Qurbono and our all regional parish priest were co-celebrants. Msgr. ShajiManikullamblessed the Vallikurishu,handed over to Padayatra Captain Rev. Fr. Benny OIC, DMCA Gen Secretary Mr. Sijin Mathew & MCYM Delhi Regional President Mr. Sijo Sunny andMsgr. inaugurated the Padayatra.


After refreshment, Padayathraproceeded to Nebsarai Cathedral via IndirapuramVelankanni Church, after a grand reception at Velankanni Church, by noon padayathra reached at St. George Malankara Catholic Church, MayurVihar. At MayurVihar Church padayathra traditionally received by Parish Vicar Rev. Fr. Felix OIC and Parish members and followed by DhoopaPrarthana. After reception everyone had lunch and rest.


In the evening by 3.30 PM padayathra re-started from MayurVihar and proceed to Jasola. By 7.30 PM padayathra reached at St. Jude Malankara Catholic Church, Jasola. At Jasola Church padayathra traditionally received by Parish members and followed by DhoopaPrarthana. After grand reception everyone had dinner and halt for the day.


Next day 23rd July 2017, at 6.00 AM the padayathra started after Morning Prayer from Jasola Church and proceed to final destination of St. Mary’s Cathedral Nebsarai.By 10.30 AM padayathra reached at St. Mary’s Cathedral. H E Vincent Mar Paulose along with Cathedral Vicar Rev Fr. Philips Vazhakunnath and Parish Members received the padayathra.


The two days long celebrations concluded with the solemn Holy Qurbono celebrated by H E Vincent Mar Paulose Bishop of Marthandom Diocese andthe entire regional priest were co-celebrants. The second day concluded with DhoopaPrarthana, Special Prayer, Luthiniya, Nercha and Agape.   


Around 800 devotees participated in the two days celebrations from all over the Delhi Region. The celebration was very much delightful to all the devotees participated in Padayathra, Holy Qurbono and Prayers. Devotees went to home with full of joy and peace in heart.
All the preparations were done in the headship of Proto Presbyter Rev Fr. Sam Pathackal and team members Mr. K. G John (Vice President), Mr. Sijin Mathew (Gen. Mar Ivanios Pilgrimage 2017

The Mar Ivanios Pilgrimage 2017 from Delhi  started on 11th July 2017 from Mar IvaniosBhawan, Neb Sarai, New Delhi, with the Holy Qurbono celebrated by H.E. Most Rev. Bp. Jacob Mar Barnabas.  After, the Holy Qurbono and Dhoopa-prarthana, the “Vallikurishu” and the Portrait of Servant of God Mar Ivarios were handed over by His Excellency to Rev. Fr. Sam Pathackal and Mr. Biju George respectively.    Rev. Fathers, Sisters and Regional Pastoral Council Members in Delhi Region were present to receive and see off the Pilgrimage Team.   The Pilgrim-team moved to New Delhi Railway Station, from where most of the pilgrims joined together and travelled by Kerala Express to Trivandrum.  There were 49 Pilgrim-members from Delhi Region in the train and so many people along with the priests, sisters and missionaries from our different mission stations namely Odisha,Punjab and North-East have participated in the Padayathra in Kerala for five days.

  The Pilgrim-team spent time in reciting prayers, Luthiniya, seeking intercession and recollecting the life & vision of Archbishop Mar Ivanios.  Bhopal Community received the Pilgrimage-team at Bhopal Railway Station with much devotion and enthusiasm.  The pilgrim-team reached Trivandrum on 13th July evening, and visited the Tomb at the Pattom Cathedral on 14th morning, where the pilgrims from different regions of the Diocese of Gurgaon and Excharchate of Pune assembled together and offered Holy Qurbono.   His Excellency Most Rev. Bp. Thomas Mar Anthonios was the main celebrant and priests from Diocese of Gurgaon and Pune Exarchage were the co-celebrants.   After the Holy Qurbono, the pilgrim team went to Vettinad and joined with the Main Padayatra coming from Ranni-Perunnadu under the leadership of His Beatitude Cardinal Baselios CleemisCatholicos.   The entire Padayathra-team, thousands in number, reached the Tomb Chapel by 14th July evening and participated in the Prayers and Candle Procession.   On 15th July, 2017, the devotees participated in the main celebrations of Concelebrated Holy Qurbono, Dhoopa-prarthana, Agape, etc.

On 7 May 2017, Gurgaon diocese celebrated the Second anniversary of its inauguration along with the festal celebrations of Bishop H.E. The annual Syro-Malankara Catholic Bible Convention in the Diocese was held this at the St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral, Neb Sarai, New Delhi. It was inaugurated on 24 February 2017 by H.E. Most Rev. Jacob Mar Barnabas, in the presence of Chief Vicar General, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Daniel Kuzhithadathil Corepiscopo, Very Rev. Fr. Simon Eluvuthinkal (Retreat Preacher), Very Rev. Mother Lilly Jose SIC, Provincial Tiruvalla and representatives of the various Apostolates. The convention concluded on Sunday, 26 February 2017 wherein H.E. Theodore Mascarenhas, SFX was the chief guest who blessed the gathering with this presence and blessings.

The Annual Delhi Malankara Catholic Association {DMCA} Christmas was conducted on Sunday 10th January 2016. All the parishes from Delhi participated the programme and performed individual presentation for 15 minutes each. This presentation included skit, mime, carol songs etc. The gathering concluded with the solemn meeting which was chaired by H.E. Jacob Mar Barnabas. The chief guest for the day was Jewish Rabbi Ezekiel, Isaac Malekar. The Honourable MLA of the constituency Shri. Kartar Singh also graced the occasion. The Vicar General Rt. Rev. Fr. John Kochuthundil, along with reverend priests, sisters and lay leaders were present for the occasion. Approximately 500 members from the parishes of Delhi gathered for the occasion which concluded with the dinner.

The gathering took pace at the premises of the Bishop’s house Residence at Neb Sarai, New Delhi and included approximately 100 children who stay nearby and have no access to proper school education. Some of their parents also participated. The neighbors of the Bishop’s house joined the gathering. The program included Christmas cake cutting, Action songs and Dance by the Children and distribution of winter clothes and refreshments.

Following the inauguration of the Year of Mercy by the Holy Father Pope Francis on 8 December 2015, this ecclesiastical year for mercy was inaugurated in the Diocese of Gurgaon by H.E. Jacob Mar Barnabas on 13 December 2015. This was done through a liturgical ceremony which included the opening of the main door of the Cathedral of the Diocese (St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Cathedral, Neb Sarai). The prayers for this liturgical service were prepared by Rev. Fr. Mathew Kalarikkalayil.

Christmas Celebrations at Manasarovar Park

On 19 December 2015, the Prachodana Social Service Society (social service department of the Diocese of Gurgaon) arranged a Christmas gathering and celebration for the slum-dwelling children at Manasarovar Park, New Delhi. As part of the non-formal education program for these children, this celebration included brief cultural programs performed by the children from this place. Christmas carols were sung by the youth members from St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Cathedral, Neb Sarai. H. E. Jacob Mar Barnabas conveyed his Christmas greetings and shared the Christmas cake to all the children and their family members. Mr. Raymond D’souza, a lay leader was the chief guest. Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Kochuthundil also gave the Christmas message. As part of the Christmas celebrations, winter clothes were distributed to the young children. Followed by noon meal for all those gathered.58 children along with their parents and nearby residents also participated in the event.
